Party Fun!

We had a great time officially celebrating Christian's 6th birthday on Saturday. We had lots of family, food and fun. Since it was his birthday, we let Christian decide the order of things. No surprise he wanted to open presents first. Then came the cake and ice cream (or for the birthday boy - the blow out the candles and run back outside to play and forget the goodies). Here he is doing his duty of making a wish. I bet it was something like "I wish they would hurry up and finish singing" or "I wish this light saber was real so I could use it to slice the cake." Here's the spread. The homemade butter cream icing tasted yummy! Tom didn't want us to use too much tinting so it would be healthy icing. (Remember when you weren't supposed to eat red M&M's because of the dye?) I told him with a recipe using shortening, butter and powered sugar a little orange tint would be the least of our worries. Cake and ice cream cover the five basic food groups, right? Cake mix has flour - Grain; Eggs were added to mix -Protein; Vegetable oil added to the mix covers Fats/Oils as well as Vegetable; Ice cream is Dairy and Fruit - Neapolitan ice cream has strawberry. Oh, and let's not forget the chips - Vegetable. I know it's a stretch - just a Mom proving she served a healthy snack. Okay not so healthy, but yummy
none the less!
