The Veil

Let me preface this post by saying that I dance during worship, but I am not aware of what songs will be sung. Only those on the Praise Team and in the sound booth know (I am not a part of either).

This morning during prayer time at church I wrote the following:

I confess to my Lord - all that is not of Him has to leave - has to bow before Him. Jesus tore the veil. There is nothing - NO THING - separating me from God except that which I allow to be there. Judgemental thoughts and words - pride (when I am not obedient to the Lord I am in essence saying that I know better than He does - that's pride).

I don't have to keep fighting, working my way through the veil - it's torn - it's down. I can wrap myself in it and stay bound or I can leap over it right into His waiting arms.

In Matthew 27:51, Mark 15:38 and Luke 23:45, we read that the veil was torn from top to bottom. If the veil was still joined at the top then something big wouldn't be able to get through - it would get stuck at the top. If the veil was still together at the bottom I could get tripped up on small things. But NO - it was ripped from TOP to BOTTOM - making clear the path - the Way!

After writing this, Praise and Worship started. I was dancing and worshipping. After a few songs "At the Cross" started and I started crying and praising!! Listen to the words of this song and see how it applies to the word I received. God speaks to us!!

Be blessed!!!

The Quilt Holes

I received this in an e-mail from Betty, my mother-in-law. It is wonderful. The e-mail asks you to forward this to 5 other people - instead think of 5 people (stop, close your eyes and pray for the first people that come to your mind).
Blessings!!

'The Quilt Holes'
As I faced my Maker at the last judgment, I knelt before the Lord along with all the other souls.
Before each of us laid our lives like the squares of a quilt in many piles; an angel sat before each of us sewing our quilt squares together into a tapestry that is our life.
But as my angel took each piece of cloth off the pile, I noticed how ragged and empty each of my squares was. They were filled with giant holes. Each square was labeled with a part of my life that had been difficult, the challenges and temptations I was faced with in every day life. I saw hardships that I endured, which were the largest holes of all.

I glanced around me. Nobody else had such squares. Other than a tiny hole here and there, the other tapestries were filled with rich color and the bright hues of worldly fortune. I gazed upon my own life and was disheartened.

My angel was sewing the ragged pieces of cloth together, threadbare and empty, like binding air.

Finally the time came when each life was to be displayed, held up to the light, the scrutiny of truth. The others rose; each in turn, holding up their tapestries. So filled their lives had been. My angel looked upon me and nodded for me to rise.

My gaze dropped to the ground in shame. I hadn't had all the earthly fortunes. I had love in my life and laughter. But there had also been trials of illness and wealth, and false accusations that took from me my world, as I knew it. I had to start over many times. I often struggled with the temptation to quit, only to somehow muster the strength to pick up and begin again. I spent many nights on my knees in prayer, asking for help and guidance in my life. I had often been held up to ridicule, which I endured painfully, each time offering it up to the Lord Father in hopes that I would not melt within my skin beneath the judgmental gaze of those who unfairly judged me.

And now, I had to face the truth. My life was what it was, and I had to accept it for what it was.

I rose and slowly lifted the combined squares of my life to the light.

An awe-filled gasp filled the air. I gazed around at the others who stared at me with wide eyes.

Then, I looked upon the tapestry before me. Light flooded the many holes, creating an image, the face of Christ. Then our Lord stood before me, with warmth and love in His eyes. He said, 'Every time you gave over your life to Me, it became My life, My hardships, and My struggles.

Each point of light in your life is when you stepped aside and let Me shine through, until there was more of Me than there was of you.

'May all our quilts be threadbare and worn, allowing Christ to shine through!

God determines who walks into your life...it's up to you to decide who you let walk away, who you let stay and who you refuse to let go.

When there is nothing left but God, that is when you find out that God is all you need. Take 60 seconds and give this a shot! All you do is simply say the following small prayer for the person who sent you this.Father, bless all my family and friends in whatever it is that you know they may need this day! And may their life be full of your peace, prosperity and power as he/she seeks to have a closer relationship with you. Amen. Then sit back and watch the power of God work in your life.

Emerald Isle 2009 - updated

Sunday we returned from our family vacation to Emerald Isle. We had a great time - great memories. There were 15 of us. Bill and Betty (Tom's parents); Tom's sister, Colleen and her family - husband, Ronnie and children, Rebecca (12) & Josh (10); the five of us; and Tom's younger sister, Jennifer and her family - husband, Matt and children, Jacob (9 almost 10) and Eli (18 months).

We had a blast at the beach, in the pool, in the hot tub, in the theater room, at the water park, playing games (Outburst and Taboo for the adults) (Scene It Jr., Cranium, billiards and poker with the kids) and just hanging out.

We took turns cooking dinner.
Sunday night: Bill & Betty cooked some yummy spaghetti with a side salad and bread and chocolate chip cookies for dessert.
Monday night: Colleen & Ronnie grilled hot dogs and hamburgers with pasta salad and a wonderful warm potato salad and a very yummy blackberry wine cake for dessert. (The hamburgers were wonderful for lunch the next two days also.)
Tuesday night it was the Crab Shack's turn to serve up dinner. Amazingly, Anna Gracen and Rebecca did not even order seafood - they ordered chicken tenders. Wooten loved the soft shell crab and shrimp. I also had the soft shell crab and some delish crab cakes (Christian wasn't so sure about the crab cakes).
Wednesday night: my turn. Fruity drinks (as the kids called them) - strawberry slushies made with frozen strawberry daiquiri mix, Sierra Mist, sugar (to sweeten) and ice. Fried chicken (from Lowe's Foods), popcorn chicken, green bean casserole, bacon/cheddar potatoes and ice cream sandwich cake for dessert.
Thursday night: More fruity drinks (as requested by the kids); port wine cheese with crackers, pretzel wedges and pita chips for appetizer. PaPa ordered pizza from Michaelangelos Pizza. Everyone was happy!
Friday night: Jennifer & Matt served the ever popular Mexican night. Ginger ale margaritas (served with salt on the rim) were popular with the adults and kids. Chips and salsa and make your own burritos with hamburger, chicken, black beans, Mexican rice, guacamole, homemade pico de gallo (extra yummy), tomatoes, lettuce, sour cream, salsa, and cheese. Blueberry crunch with ice cream for dessert.
Saturday night: Back to the shack - Crab Shack for more seafood (and chicken tenders for Anna Gracen; Wooten ordered the same dinner he had on Tuesday night. Christian decided to try the shrimp and loved them).

Ronnie, Colleen and I took our bicycles down to the beach. Ronnie rides much faster than Colleen and I (Lance Armstrong style), so he did solo rides Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Monday I rode solo to the point of the island and back "home" (20 miles). Tuesday, Colleen and I rode to Fort Macon (30 miles round trip). Wednesday I did a solo trip to both ends of the island (map here) - 50 miles. I took Thursday off. Colleen and I rode to the point and back. We rode part of the way on the bicycle trail which was adventurous - lots of curves and hills. Several times we could be heard yelling "Weeee". I have now ridden 1000 miles since we bought my bicycle at the end of April. Wooo Hooo!!

Some of our favorite moments/memories:
  • Telling Eli to "show us happy" and seeing him turn his head and say "Happy".
  • Playing Outburst and the intense competition.
  • How good Jennifer is at Taboo.
  • Candy fruit slices
  • Tom hunting for seashells.
  • All of us hearing the elevator and knowing that Ronnie was the one in it.
  • Me bribing the kids to go down the big, tunnel slides at the water park.
  • How Josh was always the last one to get up in the mornings.
  • The way Eli says "tomato".
  • Christian taught Eli the word "mine" and how to use it.
  • The awesome waitress at Crab Shack (between the time we were there Tuesday and Saturday she became a grandmother to a healthy baby boy).
  • Jennifer recognizing a distant cousin at Crab Shack.
  • Tom, Anna Gracen, Christian and I seeing our church friend, Lou, at the Food Lion at Emerald Isle.
  • Betty and Bill seeing Lou's son, Mark and granddaughter, Brook at Food Lion.
  • Colleen seeing Brook and her friend riding their bicycles in Emerald Isle.
  • Colleen and I seeing two Bambi's on our Friday ride to the point.
  • MeMa taking the kids to get ice cream at Dairy Queen.
  • Fruity drinks (the way Jacob wanted to make sure he had the recipe right)
  • Jacob talking with a gum ball in his mouth - made me laugh - the funny thing is I totally understood what he was saying.
  • Shark week (on TV and on the beach)
  • The night I cooked dinner - hanging out with Rebecca while I cooked. Me throwing cheese all over the kitchen (by accident).
  • The never ending supply of red solo cups. Did they multiply?
  • Colleen's friend, Robin (from PA), and her nephew, Will, coming over to visit and hang out at the beach with us.
  • Realizing that the house we stayed in two years ago was just a few houses down from the one we stayed in this year.
  • All the laughing!
